I enjoy seeing the marshes here in Southeast Texas. Observing and photographing the wildlife there is something I really love. When I'm able to be there right at sunrise, it can be one of the best opportunities for photographs.

This morning had an absolutely stunning golden sunrise. The sun felt larger than life. The sky was a beautiful yellow-to-orange gradient, with the land and subjects becoming rich silhouettes.

The marshy pond is loaded with details, starting with the two birds along the lower edge of the frame. The mix of water and small pieces of land gives the scene more interest.

But what really connects the marsh to the golden sun is the two birds flying toward it, their wings fully spread.

The birds on the land lead my eye to the birds in the air. Those birds lead toward the sun. Then the bright reflection of the sun creates a bit of flare in the bottom right, which brings my eye back toward the birds on the land.

It's almost a circle.

And inside that circle, there are more things to discover. Two ducks are swimming in the pond. There are small patches of land and water throughout the frame, each adding another little detail.

I think that's the beauty of this photograph. The depth of the scene gives the viewer more reasons to linger.

There isn't just one thing to look at.

The longer I stay with the frame, the more I find.
